Dance Classes

50+CDS offers weekly open level contemporary dance classes in person. Led by professional dance teachers, the sessions are fun and friendly and invite you to learn contemporary dance techniques and routines, explore creative free movement and develop choreography in a safe and judgement free environment.

Classes usually run in blocks of 6 on Wednesday mornings in term time. Our in-person classes are held at the University of Sheffield Rehearsal Rooms on Shearwood Road in Broomhall.

Booking is now open for the next block starting Wednesday 17 April 2024.

Our next block of classes will run for 6 weeks on Wednesdays from 17/04/24 – 22/05/23 inclusive at 10:30am – 11:45am, with an optional 15 minutes social time afterwards. It will be led by our lovely artistic director, Lucy Haighton.

Classes are held at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio, Shearwood Rd, S10 2TD.  The class is open to all aged 50 plus, regardless of dance experience, mobility, or health.  Previous participants have included those who have never attended a dance class before, and a few with professional dance training. Sessions usually comprise a warm-up, contemporary technique, with a routine and some improvisation, plus a cool down to finish.

Classes are paid for in advance for the block of 6 weeks by bank transfer. The cost is on a sliding scale from £5 - £7 per class. Please choose the rate you feel is appropriate for you within this range. A reduced rate of £3 per class is also available. Please email us if you would like to request the reduced fee, which is available for carers and anyone else in financial need.

Feedback from classes

At first I was really nervous, especially at the thought of other people seeing my halting attempts at following a routine. Now months later, I realise that I should have entered the project with joy and enthusiasm, not fear and trepidation

Today's session really sparked my imagination, using some set movements but adapting them however we wanted. Also got to mirror-dance with someone else, first time for ages! Even though via Zoom it was still lovely to connect creatively

It's a joy and a pleasure to meet with ladies and gentlemen whose passion for dance is delightful and touching. At the moment, we are in online classes but clearly the unity and friendship between everybody is so lovely
