50+ Contemporary Dance Sheffield presents

Third Bite Dance

Third Bite Dance is the performance company of 50+ Contemporary Dance Sheffield and celebrates the voices and identities of people aged 50+ in Sheffield. The company was established in 2021 with support from Yorkshire Dance in Leeds and funding from Arts Council England and local charities Sheffield Town Trust and J G Graves Charitable Trust.

Members of Third Bite Dance come from our open classes. Third Bite Dance defies expectations of the older body and celebrates the adventure of ageing and empowerment through movement and creativity. Started by Artistic Director Lucy Haighton, Third Bite Dance now has 11 company members.

And we will be recruiting new members for Third Bite Dance in spring of 2023!

Would you like to be part of our performance group? If this sounds interesting, sign up for a free two and a half day residency on 29/03 - 31/03/23.
This is an opportunity for you to get a feel for what being in the performance company is like, and for us to see if you would be a fit. You don't need any dance training or performance experience.
We are looking for people are willing to learn and experiment, who will be supportive of each other and our teachers, and who would like to perform. From September 2021 the company has been supported by the University Of Sheffield’s Enable Us Project with classes and rehearsal space at the Drama Studio in the city centre. Since taking up residence at the drama studio the company has performed in ‘Lost At Shore’ at Theatre Deli Sheffield in collaboration with Fish Pie Cabaret and performed in an assisted living care home as part of the Moments Of Joy project through Age Friendly in Sheffield, both projects led and choreographed by Lucy Haighton.

The company had its first live performance event on 22 June 2022, An Evening with Third Bite Dance, where it performed “Anniversary” choreographed by the wonderful Alan Lyddiard, and “Slugs and Tangled Bodies” choreographed by Lucy Haighton, as well as showing its film “This is how gorgeous it feels”.

The company is now working on its next piece, “I Was, I Am, I Will Be” choreographed by Gus Watcham and rehearsal director Karla Jones.
