The Ostentatious Ball

This was such a brilliant event, so well thought out and managed. It was so clever to have a clearly defined structure that allowed for on the spot improvisation depending on who turned up. It made me think about what a mass dance participation event for Sheffield’s City of Culture bid could be! Clare

We only had about 10 minutes to rehearse our new routine in the outdoor space at the We Wonder festival, but it didn’t really matter….the whole emphasis on the day was about having fun, not being perfect. Being able to dance outdoors in the fabulous grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse surrounded by families and friends, and in fancy dress was Wonderful! Liz

From the start, I felt reassured that the main objective was to enjoy the experience. So, no obligation to remember all the steps precisely, or to do a perfect performance. This was very liberating! The inclusive programme ensured that the focus was on fun and spontaneity. I especially enjoyed dancing outdoors as part of a large community. The provision of additional props and costumes ensured that we could all be our best ostentatious selves. I'd love to take the spirit of this event forward into future dances. Judith
