Blended Classes Reflections: Sept - Dec 2021

Sharing moments of creativity between studio and zoom dancers

“I've felt a real buzz to be back in the studio working with others, but I've also been surprised how satisfying it's felt to have Zoom people join the class too. It's great to know that those who aren't able to be there in person are still part of the group. We wave at each other as we pass the screen - lots of thumbs-up to make a connection. Lucy has dealt brilliantly with the inevitable occasional tech gremlins and it all feels very positive as a new way of working. It could even open unexpected new creative possibilities...”

"Being at the blended class on zoom is wonderful - it is just like being there without being there"

- zoom dancer

“Oh the joy of being in a room again with other people, some of whom I've only ever met on zoom before. And seeing and waving to those still on Zoom during the session, feeling we're still connected”

“The good thing about zoom dancing is that you are free to try out new moves without embarrassment and make a fool of yourself in the comfort of your own home (as long as you remember to close the curtains!) When I am dancing, doing my own thing to music I am as free as a bird”

- zoom dancer

"So nice to be back to dancing in person, but it's really good that people who aren't able to join can still be part of the group, and helpful to know that having to stay in for the plumber doesn't have to mean missing a week"

"What a fabulous session - I like to close my eyes to get the feel for the music and get kinda lost but I didn't know my body was so desperate to move and I felt inspired by the ocean currents and indeed felt like I was one with the ocean - guess that what they call flow!"

“It is really great to be dancing in-person again. Although I prefer this type of live activity, I was really pleased that Lucy has adopted a blended learning approach.  It means that those who struggle to travel into Sheffield or are not yet ready to leave isolation will be able to take part in an inclusive environment linking those at home with those in the studio.  For me, I can see it will give me the option of participating via Zoom if i am tight for time or unwell”

“Many thanks for all your wonderful positivity and devotion to the joy and sense of freedom that dance can bring. It has to be almost magical to dance with people whom I have never met and who are many miles away!”

“I've experienced the class both in the studio and on Zoom. It's great to have the option to attend either way. I found both are really fun, and a great chance to be creative too. Lucy makes sure everyone is included and gets to dance together whether in the room or online”

“The classes are a fun way to connect with like-minded people who love to dance. The Zoom option has been pivotal for me. I put off joining other in person dance classes for years due to lack of confidence. It is wonderful to see how well our blended classes incorporate group and partner work. I feel that I am at the beginning of a journey with the 50+CDS group, and what a joy that is!" Thanks for all you are doing for older dancers Lucy”

“When we were reflecting I remember thinking at this present moment there is nothing else I would rather be doing, nowhere else I would want to be and although I barely know these people, there is no one else at this moment I would rather be spending my time with and somehow it felt like everyone else was feeling the same. This I expressed as a collective love of dance”

”Thank you for all the year's classes. I still find it odd - wonderful-type odd - that I get such a feeling of freedom when I am always just in my living room!”
